The portable railway of Gt. Ayton, Nth. Yorkshire
Tuesday 7th. October 2008
A quick explanation to put you in the picture.
The opening picture of this informative web site is my 7.1/4 inch portable track placed between furrows at the Northallerton Traction Engine Rally North Yorkshire 28th. September 2008. My Diahatsu mini van carries all my railway items. Sitting inside is my rally mascot the Organ Grinder. He turns the handle and plays 20 note tunes via my mini disc player. The day was not very bright hence a dark picture.
I find this basic train set safe and convenient. Passengers love to sit in the little carriage and for me the driver of this "Wickham" type trolley is comfortable, safe and easy to get on and off quickly. "Wickham" is braked, electronic power controlled, axles are sprung and has a nice and powerful 12v car battery motor unit. Issueing tickets and clipping them adds to the excitement before the whistle is blown and horn sounded. The push pull system adds to safety as the driver has a constant view of the passengers.
I have three basic portable train sets. A "baby" 5inch, the above and a larger tram set. I decide which best fits the conditions of an event. 2009 is the 30th. year of my hobby, thousands young and old have been introduced to mini railways via my miniature sit on portable railways.
Do look at my web site from time to time as little bits are added and amended. The Railway Log will keep you up to date. Now go through the following and I hope that it is all interesting to you. Have a nice day.
